[ARCHIVED] EVWD to Begin Water Main Replacement

East Valley Water District (District) will begin replacing a critical water line on Pumalo Street between Del Rosa Avenue and Golden Avenue in San Bernardino.

“The District is committed to projects that ensure safe and reliable services while conserving natural resources,” said Board Chairman Ron Coats. “This pipeline replacement will resolve the need for on-going emergency repairs through the installation of new reliable material that will be in place for years to come.”

To prevent traffic delays and avoid disruption to families and students attending nearby schools, the District has scheduled the project to begin during the summer months. Construction will begin in early July and take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

The District will begin replacing 2,000 linear feet of 8-inch water line. The existing pipe was constructed in 1966 and has required costly repairs to fix leaks. Completion of this project will decrease water loss and increase system efficiency. It will also allow staff time to focus on proactive maintenance and reduce the need for emergency repairs.

“The District has selected priority projects based on needs identified in the District’s current water master plan,” said John Mura CEO/General Manager. “The Pumalo Pipeline replacement is an example of the significant investment necessary to maintain a reliable water system for the community served by the District.”

Residents and businesses are asked to exercise extreme caution when entering and leaving the construction zone. For more information on EVWD projects and programs, visit www.eastvalley.org.
